CPR, AED, First Aid Defensive Driving Fire Safety Crime Prevention Awareness. Fire Promotional Exam Preparation Course, New York State schedules the Promotional Fire Exam for Captain/Lieutenant Instruction would focus on the six core topics on the New York State Fire Promotional Exam. Classes will be given on a parallel schedule to accommodate FD work charts. Instructors are Fire Officers Active and Retired. Certified Teachers will instruct on Preparing Written Material section of the exam.

Firefighter Entrance Exam Review Course

Instruction will focus on the 4 core exam topics tested:
  • Ability to learn and apply information
  • Basic arithmetic
  • Reading comprehension
  • Situational judgment
  • Taking this course will help you attain the highest possible grade on the entrance exam.
  • First Class is free of charge, with no obligation to enroll in the entire course.

Fire Captain/Lieutenant

The Fire Promotional Exam Review Course

  • Instruction will focus on the six core topics tested on the NYS Fire Captain/Lieutenant Exam.
  • Classes will conducted via Zoom or In-person but not simultaneously.
  • Most classes will be 3 hours long.
  • Each class will be repeated if you’re unable to attend.
  • Instructors collectively have more than 200 years of firefighting & test-taking experience!
  • A certified teacher will instruct on the “Preparing Written Material” section given on the NYS exam.
  • A final exam is administered with a similar make-up to the actual New York State Exam.
  • First Class is free of charge, with no obligation to enroll in the entire course.

Fire Chief/Assistant Fire Chief

The Fire Promotional Exam Review Course

  • Most classes will be 3 hours long. A complete course schedule will be out shortly.
  • A certified teacher will instruct on the “Preparing Written Material” section given on the NYS exam.
  • A final exam will be given with a similar makeup to the actual New York State Exam.

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

For anyone needing lifesaving skills: learn CPR and AED use. This AHA-certified CPR course teaches Hands-Only CPR, adult/child resuscitation and AED operation. Training is designed for firefighters, EMS providers, healthcare professionals and the public. You’ll practice on mannequins and receive a completion card valid for CPR/AED certification.

Meets national health guidelines. Our CPR class follows American Heart Association standards and OSHA/BLS requirements. The curriculum emphasizes real-life response: immediate CPR can double or triple a cardiac arrest victim’s chance of survival. By course end you’ll be ready to respond confidently in any emergency.

A Decade of Experience

Your instructor Mr. Jim Agostino

Jim Agostino is a veteran firefighter instructor with a lifetime of experience. He spent 33 years in the City of Yonkers Fire Department, retiring as a Fire Lieutenant. Jim led engine and ladder crews on structure fires and emergencies, then developed training programs for new recruits and officers. His career includes expertise in tactical operations, Incident Command (NIMS/ICS) and safety management.

As Founder and Lead Instructor of FDST, Jim brings recognized credentials to every class. Jim’s courses are informed by real-world success stories. He has guided hundreds of students who report higher confidence and improved exam results after classes. Students trust his instruction because it’s grounded in proven fire service practices and supported by authoritative standards.

The faculty of FDST includes Chiefs, Captains, Lieutenants, and Firefighters with over 200 years of cumulative firefighting and test taking experience.
